Where did it all start?

Meet the man who made this thing happen, the one and only Jack Dorsey! While working at ODEO, a podcasting company at the time, Dorsey would work during his off hours on a side project what would serve as an SMS-based communications platform. In 2006, when he finally got it running the first tweet ever read "just setting up my twttr," and was sent by Dorsey himself. When the website first launched it was named twttr, because it was cool to drop vowels in words and also because during the time of its creation the domain was already taken and it did not get bought until 6 months after its birth. The website was released to the public shortly after the domain was purchased and became an official company in 2007. Users originally sent the SMS messages by texting their update to "40404".
